With the holiday season and Christmas right around the corner, many of you are going to be feeling slightly anxious about the weight that typically creeps on at this time of the year.
As you’re gearing up for parties and going about all your holiday baking, it can be difficult to try and stick with a diet, little own actually experience further fat loss.
Having an action plan for the holiday season is what you now need to come up with if you do hope to see a weight loss over Christmas – or at the very least, maintain your current body weight.
Here’s what to do.
Weight Loss Tip #1: Bring A Dish To The Event
One way to help keep calorie intake down at any dinner you go to is offer to prepare and bring your own dish. Most hosts will appreciate the gesture (less work for them!) and you know the dish you will prepare will be healthy.
Salads are always a good option, or soup is another smart move that will serve to fill you up while being low in calories.
Weight Loss Tip #2: Workout Around Big Meals
Next up, if you’ve got a big meal coming up later on in the day, do your best to try and put your workout just before this meal. This will make that high-calorie meal work for you, rather than against you.
When you’ve just finished exercising, your body is going to be crying for nutrition – both carbohydrates and protein, to help restore muscle glycogen and provide the amino acids essential for building new muscle tissue.
By eating this high calorie meal after your workout, you could actually build new muscle mass, rather than cause fat gain.
Do note though that fat should be avoided in this meal, so choose your food selection carefully. Chocolate is not a good option.
Weight Loss Tip #3: Be More Active Throughout the Day
Because there’s a fair chance you’re going to be busier during the holidays, making sticking with your usual workout schedule more difficult, try an incorporate other activity into your day wherever you can.
Remember that all exercise will add up, so little bursts here and there will help prevent those Christmas pounds from latching on to your love handles.
Weight Loss Tip #4: Take Immediate Action
Finally, the last thing you can do to keep your weight loss on track over the holidays is take immediate action should you fall off the wagon.
Realize that isn’t not smart to expect perfection of yourself, and instead, allow for minor slip-ups, but compensate for these the next day.
Don’t go doing hours of cardio (that isn’t going to help you out much in the end), but reduce back slightly on your food intake – namely the calories coming from fat and carbohydrates – not protein.
So, keep these weight loss tips in mind as you move through the Christmas season.
Don’t expect to make stellar progress with your fat loss program, but don’t allow yourself to gain back ten pounds either.
With a reasonable approach, you should be able to step into the New Year without having to battle the bulge any further than you already were.
